Export Promotion Bureau


The export promotion bureau was set up in 1963 to help the business community to find out and capture foreign markets and earn the country precious foreign markets and earn the country precious foreign exchange that would be ploughed back in the industrialization country.


The bureau provides the exporters with the latest marketing information and offers them all necessary guidance about the export procedure, rules, regulations and tariffs.


The EPB has been successful in setting up permanent displays of exportable products not only within the country but also many selected centers abroad.


The world trade organization (WTO) which is one of the organs of the United Nations and whose decisions are binding to all UNO members has evolved a policy of trade liberalization that means all countries will have to open up their borders for foreign goods with the minimum possible custom duties.


This policy has created not only opportunities for exporters but also honed competition to maximum extent.



ORGANIZATIONS


The Export Promotion Bureau is headed by a chairman who must be minister of state.


Under him work vice chairman who supervises directors who are posted at the head various area offices.


The area offices are all over major cites of a country EPB is an attached department of the ministry of commerce.



THE OBJECTIVES


The main objective of bureau is,

1 It explore foreign market

2 It conducts trade fairs and exhibition locally and abroad.

3 It sends delegation abroad

4 The bureau conducts market surveys and studies

5 It works out strategies for promotion of export of both traditional and especially non traditional items.




SERVICES TO THE GOVERNMENT



1 The Export Promotions Bureau helps government to fix export targets keeping in view the local capability and potentials, competition and the import policies of foreign countries.


2 The bureau helps in formulating regulations for export trade.


3 It monitors and analyzes the export performance.


4 it arranges for trade negotiations.


5 It advice the government how to simplify export procedure.
